PassTracker - What is the Difference between a 1 Computer Configuration vs a 2 Computer Configuration?

In the best of all world, PassTracker is setup on at least two computers. The first computer is used by staff members to enter client information and make sales etc. The second computer is dedicated to scanning in the bar codes on customer passes and giving customers information on the status of their passes.

The advantage of the two computer setup is that the second scanner computer is dedicated to the purposes of scanning and displaying messages to the client.

The downside of course is cost. You will need to purchase an extra copy of FileMaker and an extra PC or Mac.

1 Computer Configuration

The single computer configuration is still possible. The approach taken is to run PassTracker on the single computer and have the bar code send an F Key command before the bar code scan. This F-Key will run a macro, bringing the Scanner database to the fore and entering the bar code into the appropriate field for processing.

The downside of this approach is that occasionally staff will be working on something and the computer is taken over by the scanner, sending the bar code to the correct field.
