PassTracker can Beep, Speak or Play a Sound in response to an expired or faulty pass. Here's how.
PassTracker's primary function is to keep track of users passes. When these passes expire, or there is a problem with the pass, staff needs to be notified by the scanner computer. One of the ways to do this is through the use of an error message that plays when there is a problem with the pass.
The most important thing with playing any of these error sounds is the need for a good set of speakers. They also need to be turned on.
In the Scanner database, under the Settings area, you will find a tab called "Error Sounds".
There are three types of Error Sounds that can be played:
1) Beep - uses the computer sound resources to play a simple beep. The selection of this sound is controlled in the System Preferences of the computer.
2) Speak - employs the computer's speech emulation to create a 'computer voice' of the text you enter into the field 'Error Message to Speak'.
3) Sound File - this will play pretty much any sound file you import into PassTracker. The underlying mechanism is Quicktime, so if Quicktime will play it, PassTracker should be able to play it as well.
Select 'Beep' from the Preferred Error Method.
With a simple Beep, it is probably a good idea to have the beep repeat a number of times to draw attention to the error. Again having a good set of speakers plugged into the computer is also a good idea.
Select Speak.
Set the repetitions to 1 or 2 at most to avoid totally annoying everyone.
Select Sound File.
Set the repetitions to whatever is appropriate. Remember the sound file should be fairly short to avoid delays with a busy gym where many people are trying to log in at once.
Click the button 'Click Here to Import Sound File'.
A dialog box will open and you can navigate to your sound file.
If you wish to change the sound file, note that the button now reads 'Click Here to Clear Sound File'. Click this once, and it should clear the sound file and then read 'Click Here to Import Sound File'. This will allow you to select a new sound file.
Whichever method you select, you can now click on the 'Test Error Sound' button to hear a sample of what will playback when an expired or faulty pass is scanned.
